Maria Xanthoudaki, Director of Education and of CREI at “Leonardo da Vinci” Museum (Milan), will be taking part in the panel on Information Literacy development and training in educational contexts: creating knowledgeable and critical 21st century citizens, scheduled in EMMILE Programme on Feb. 27th, afternoon.

Abstract

Contemporary museums face a challenging mission: contribuite to the empowerment of all individuals by encouraging the development of knowledge and skills that enable them to become confident learners and conscious citizens. What does this mean in terms of receiving, possessing and elaborating information? What does it mean for museums as cultural institutions, for their professionals and for their visitors when engaging in learning experiences? Answering these questions would help analyse on the one hand the approaches adopted by museums when designing educational experiences for their visitors and on their role as mediators of knowledge and as informal learning settings in society.
