Barbara Schultz-Jones

Barbara Schultz-Jones will be contributing to EMMILE programme on Feb. 28th morning with a speech about:

“New Competencies for the Teacher Librarian”

This session will discuss the various standards and resulting competencies that school librarians must master to fulfill the role of teacher librarian. The American Association of School Librarians places information literacy at the core of its programs and standards. They state: “Guiding principles for school library programs must focus on building a flexible learning environment with the goal of producing successful learners skilled in multiple literacies”. A set of guidelines to direct and inspire school librarians provide tools for planning and implementing active information literacy programs. The focus on multiple literacies challenges school librarians to stay at the forefront of educational tools and resources while educators of school librarians are challenged to prepare school librarians for this leadership role in the school learning community. These challenges are presented and discussed, alongside the new competencies and various standards.
